Homemade Pizza Dough

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp melted butter, cooled
  • 2 1/2 cups flour I use half white, half whole wheat
  • 1 tsp pizza seasoning (optional)

  1. Preheat oven to 425.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.

  3. Stir in remaining ingredients. Switch to kneading with greased hands as it forms a ball.

  4. (Optional: If you are freezing half of the dough for later, slightly flatten half of the dough onto a piece of plastic wrap and wrap. Wrap the dough with a second piece of plastic wrap. Place it in the freezer.)

  5. Divide the dough and place it on 2 greased 12" pizza pans. Or on one greased jelly roll pan. I like to grease my pans with bacon grease for extra flavor. Let the dough rest 5 minutes.

  6. Spread the dough out to the edges. Top with sauce, meat, cheese and seasonings.

  7. (Optional: Let rise 30 minutes for fluffier crust.)

  8. Bake at 425 for 20-25 minutes or until done.
